BLESSING OF GRAVES 2024

Blessing of Graves in the parishes of Ballinascreen and Desertmartin will take place this weekend as follows:

Saturday June 8:

6.30 pm Mass in St Patrick’s Keenaught followed by Blessing of graves. Please note earlier Mass time.

Sunday June 9:

11.00 am ~ Mass in St Patrick’s Church, Sixtowns followed by Blessing of graves.

12 noon ~ Mass in St Eugene’s Church, Moneyneena followed by Blessing of graves.

2.00 pm ~ Blessing of graves at St Columba’s Straw.

3.00 pm ~ Blessing of graves at St Mary’s, Coolcalm.

4.30 pm ~ Blessing of graves at Old Keenaught Church.

Please gather at your family grave before the Ceremony begins.

Please bring a small container of water (ONE for each grave) to the Ceremony.

This water will be blessed during the Ceremony. A member of each family will be invited to sprinkle holy water on the grave after the prayers of blessing over all the graves have been recited by the priests.  At each Ceremony we will also remember by name all those who died in our parish since Cemetery Sunday 2023.

The annual gate collection will be taken up, at the end of each ceremony to help with the upkeep of the graveyards. You may use the white envelope (at the back of each box of envelopes) marked Special Collection No 1 for this collection.  Thank you.


VISITATION OF SICK AND HOUSEBOUND

Over the next week Fr Madden will continue to visit the sick of the parish and will contact each family the day before. If anyone has special hospital appointments etc please let him know and a time and day that suits can be arranged.

SUMMER DRAW 2024

The Annual Summer Draw is upon us and this year the need for us all to make a huge effort to get as many to take part cannot be exaggerated. The work in St Eugene's Church, Moneyneena is progressing well and we are hoping that the Summer Draw will be a great success. We rely on every parishioner to take tickets into their work place and to distribute them among family members who live outside the parish. 

The total prize fund is £8,000 and the Draw will be held each Saturday from 13 July until Saturday August 10.  Winners will be announced each Saturday at the 6.00 p.m. Vigil Mass in Holy Rosary Church.

FORTY HOURS ADORATION

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in St Mary’s Church, Coolcalm on Sunday 16 and Monday 17 June, will start after 10.00 am Mass and end at 7.30 pm each day. 


DO THIS IN MEMORY

The Vigil Mass last Saturday and the Corpus Christi Procession marked the end of the 2023/2024 Do This In Memory programme in our parish.  Many thanks to all the committee members, teachers, parents and of course children who supported and participated in this special faith development programme during the past nine months.

ST EUGENE’S CHURCH

Fr Madden is grateful for the donations already received towards the renovation work on St Eugene’s Church. Further donations gratefully accepted.

DIOCESE OF DERRY THREE-DAY PILGRIMAGE TO LOUGH DERG

Pilgrimage will be led by Bishop Donal McKeown from Friday 26 July to Sunday, 28 July.  Bus from St Eugene's Cathedral, on Friday 26th at 11.00 am. Cost £80 includes transport.  Cost for those making their own way to Lough Derg is £70.  Pre-booking required for those travelling by bus. For a booking form please email tony.brennan@derrydiocese.org or phone the Office 028 71262302.  Lough Derg is a sacred place apart to bring burdens and leave them behind, to seek healing for wounds and to ask for them to be healed. The Lough Derg Pilgrimage provides a kind of breathing space in which people can calmly explore and reflect on where they find themselves in their lives at that moment in time.  We look forward to welcoming you!


TRADITIONAL MUSIC FUNDRAISING EVENT

Irish Traditional music session in An Ráth Dubh on Saturday 15 June. Junior session from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Senior Session 8.30 pm to late. Admission £10.  All proceeds from this event are in aid of renovation work on St Eugene's Church Moneyneena. All welcome.

CATECHISM / YOUCAT - KNOCK PILGRIMAGE

Do you want to learn more about your Catholic faith? COLÁISTE SAMHRAIDH - ADULT IRISH LANGUAGE SUMMER COLLEGE

Glór na Speiríní are delighted to announce their annual adult Irish language summer college from 1-5 July in Straw. Four levels, from beginners right up to fluent speakers, will be offered. Cost £50. Classes daily from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm, followed by various other activities in the afternoon. DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY

Fr. Liam Donnelly will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving on Friday 21 June at 7.00 pm in Our Lady of Mercy Church Lavey, to mark his 60th anniversary of ordination. Refreshments after Mass in Lavey Club.


KILCRONAGHAN CENTRE

If you wish to have a deceased loved one prayed for at any Anniversary Friday Mass, you MUST please email their name to Ballinascreen Parish Office by noon on Thursday of the relevant week. Notices for First Anniversary and Month's Mind Masses should be received before the Wednesday of the previous week so that they may be printed in the Bulletin the weekend before the Anniversary Mass

  • Yoga classes and Knit & Natter classes will resume again in September.

  • Sarsfield’s Accordion Band & Div 30 extend sympathy to band members, Ryan McAleese on the death of his mother Fionnuala McAleese, and to Mary-Kate and Sarah Bradley on the death of their great uncle, Paddy McGuigan.
