FEASTS OF THE WEEK

Thursday 20: The Irish Martyrs. 17 Irish martyrs, men and women, cleric and lay, put to death for the Catholic faith between 1579 and 1654 were beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1992.

Friday 21: St Aloysius Gonzaga. Jesuit. As a novice he worked in the plague hospital and caught the fever, dying in 1591, aged 23. He is patron of youth.

CEMETERY SUNDAY 2019

Annual Blessing of the Graves will take place today, Sunday 16 June, at the following times:

  • STRAW 2.00 pm

  • SIXTOWNS 3.30 pm

  • MONEYNEENA 4.30 pm.

Please gather at your family grave before the Ceremony begins. Please bring a small container of water (ONE for each grave) to the Ceremony. This water will be blessed by the priests during the Ceremony.

A member of each family will be invited to sprinkle holy water on the grave after the prayers of blessing over all the graves have been recited by the priests.

At each Ceremony we will also remember by name all those parishioners who were buried in Ballinascreen since Cemetery Sunday last year.

A gate collection will be taken up, at the end of each ceremony to help with the upkeep of the graveyards.

Please use the white envelope (at the back of each box of envelopes) marked Special Collection No 1 for this collection.

NOVENA TO THE SACRED HEART

Novena Prayer

Lord Jesus, you have said, ‘Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you’. I come to you in faith and trust, in love and hope. Let me know your closeness to me, and your care of me and for all who are dear to me.

My intention for this Novena is dear to me and I know that what is important to me is

important to you. Hear my prayer (mention your intention); grant what I ask, and may I always trust that in all that happens in life, you will be close to me as my friend, guide and saviour.

And so, Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION

Adoration in Holy Rosary Church on Monday June 17 commences after 10.00 am Mass and continues until 7.25 pm.

VISITATION OF SICK AND HOUSEBOUND

Fr Madden will next visit the sick of the parish on the following days:

Those visited by Fr Downey will be attended by Fr Madden on Monday 24 June, Tuesday 25 June and Wednesday 26 June. Fr Madden will tend the sick of his own area the following week on Monday July 1, Tuesday July 2 and Wednesday July 3. Fr McGirr will continue to tend to those resident in Ballinascreen Fold.

DO THIS IN MEMORY 2019

Annual Corpus Christi Mass followed by Eucharistic Procession and Benediction on Sunday 23 June at 11.00 am in St. Columba’s Church, Straw. This Mass, Procession and Benediction will mark the conclusion of the Do This in Memory Programme for this year. All P4 children are invited to wear their First Communion outfits to this Mass. All parishioners are very welcome.

PIONEER MASS

Mass of Presentation of Jubilee pins in St Eugene's Church, Moneyneena on Wednesday June 26 at 7.30 pm. At this Mass pupils who received the Sacrament of Confirmation this year will be invited to take their Confirmation Pledge. If anyone from Year 8 has not yet taken their Confirmation Pledge, they may do so at this Mass also. All welcome.

DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES 2019

The Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from July 4 – July 9. In preparation for the pilgrimage all pilgrims and their families are welcome to Mass on Tuesday 25 June at 7.30 pm in Our Lady of Lourdes Steelstown, Derry. Tickets will be distributed to pilgrims after the Mass. We ask for everyone in the diocese to please pray for the success of the pilgrimage.

PARISH ANNIVERSARY MASS

The Friday 7.30 pm Mass in St Columba’s Straw is offered as an anniversary Mass for deceased parishioners. If you wish to have your loved one prayed for at this Mass you MUST give their name to the Parish Office by Thursday of the relevant week.

Pilgrimage to Lough Derg

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lough Derg will take place from Friday 21 June - Sunday 23 June. Spiritual Director: Bishop Donal McKeown. Please consider participating in this diocesan pilgrimage. Cost €75.
