BULLETIN NOTES

NOTICES FOR THE BULLETIN

Notices for the Bulletin should be received by 1.00 pm on Wednesday ballinascreenparish@gmail.com

Bulletins are presently only available:

FEAST OF THE WEEK

Thursday April 1: Holy Thursday

Friday April 2: Good Friday. This is a day of fast and abstinence. Fasting means that the amount of food we eat is considerably reduced. This applies to those aged 18 to 60. Abstinence means that those aged over 14 abstain from eating meat.

CHURCHES OPEN FOR PUBLIC WORSHIP

  • While our Churches are now open for worship our bishop along with the other Catholic bishops in Northern Ireland still wishes us to emphasise the need for continued caution and they also state that every person should consider carefully if returning to collective worship is a safe and appropriate step for them, at this time, and they strongly encourage the faithful to join in the ceremonies of Holy Week, by way of live-streaming, from the ‘domestic church’ of their own living rooms.

  • The bishops also remind all the faithful that the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days remains suspended.

  • It is important to note that Weddings and Funerals will continue to be subject to the relevant state participation, including regulations in terms of the numbers that can attend.

  • In light of this statement and following the necessary risk assessment the following will apply in the Parishes of Ballinascreen and Desertmartin for Holy Week 2021.

    1. Masses on Monday 29, Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 March will be celebrated at 11.00 am in Holy Rosary Church and 7.30 pm in St Mary’s Coolcalm. No booking is required for these three days of Holy Week, but obviously social distancing rules will apply.

    2. Tickets MUST be booked online if you wish to attend any of the Ceremonies on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday or Easter Sunday. Tickets may be booked for more than one ceremony. However if you book for Holy Saturday we ask you not to book also for a Mass on Easter Sunday, (and vice-versa) this will enable as many people as possible to share in the Easter Eucharist.

    3. Online bookings for Holy Week Ceremonies is open for both parishes on each parish website.

    4. Cancellations may become available so please keep an eye on the booking page if the Ceremony you wish to attend is already ‘sold out’.

The times of all Masses in both parishes for Holy Week 2021 are at the bottom of this Bulletin.

SOCIAL DISTANCING

In the fight against coronavirus, maintaining social distancing is everyone’s responsibility. And with the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccination programme well underway there are fresh concerns around complacency. These concerns coupled with the increased anxiety of many, especially those in vulnerable groups, around contracting the virus is why it is so important to continue to show support for and practice social distancing.

DIOCESE OF DERRY – PRAYER FOR LENT 2021

Loving Father,

To prepare for His mission of proclaiming Your kingdom to the world

Your Son Jesus was guided by

Your Holy Spirit to the quiet of the desert.

In these Lenten days,

I pray that I will be guided by that same Spirit,

to a place of renewal in my heart and mind,

so that I will seek opportunities for daily personal prayer,

personal sacrifices and acts of kindness.

With Your help,

may I too be truly prepared to share in the story of the passion,

death and resurrection of

Jesus Your Son, our Lord.

Amen.

MASS TIMES IN BALLINASCREEN & DESERTMARTIN FOR PALM SUNDAY & HOLY WEEK 2021

PRAYERS FOR OUR PROTECTION

The Irish Catholic Bishops have asked for prayers for those affected by the Coronavirus. Placing all our trust in the Lord, and asking Our Lady to intercede for us, the bishops invite everyone to pray these prayers:

EXTRACT FROM SAINT PATRICK’S BREASTPLATE

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me,

Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left, Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise, Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you,

O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer. Amen
